Mini-implant Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (MARPE) allows true skeletal widening of the upper jaw in adults and late adolescents — reliably, and without surgery. Depending on bone quality and biomechanics, treatment may use 4, 6, or 8 miniscrews to stabilise the appliance and achieve predictable maxillary expansion once thought possible only in children.
• Improves jaw harmony and bite function by widening the maxilla
• Creates space for alignment without extractions (in selected cases)
• Supports nasal airflow by reducing transverse constriction of the upper jaw
• Provides a non-surgical alternative to surgical expansion in many adults
• Expands options for Class III cases — MARPE can be paired with a facemask to help stimulate forward movement of the maxilla in selected patients
At Mars Orthodontics Brisbane, MARPE is delivered with a precision-based approach using 3D CBCT imaging, airway analysis, and customised appliance design. Depending on the case, this may involve 4, 6, or 8 miniscrews, and for indicated Class III patients we may incorporate facemask protraction.
Patients across Brisbane and Australia now have access to world-class, non-surgical MARPE expansion — enhancing breathing, bite function, and facial balance without invasive surgery.
Your care is delivered exclusively by Dr Carmen and Dr Ersan — a husband-and-wife orthodontic team. Both completed advanced MARPE training in the USA and bring the latest, evidence-informed techniques to Brisbane. We don’t use associates or visiting clinicians, so you’ll see the same two doctors at every stage of your MARPE journey — assessment, appliance planning, activation, reviews, and retention.
Most patients report pressure/tightness for a few days after activations; we provide guidance to keep you comfortable.
Yes. Miniscrew-supported expansion allows many adults and late teens to widen the upper jaw without surgery.
Not always. MARPE addresses transverse problems and selected Class III cases (sometimes with a facemask). Suitability is confirmed after imaging and assessment.
